Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create an account?

Go to play.echoquest.net, click Register, enter your email and password, then verify your email via the link we send you. Once verified, you can log in and create your first character.

What devices can I play on?

EchoQuest runs in any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge — on desktop, tablet, or phone. No download or install required. Your progress syncs across all devices.

Is EchoQuest free to play?

Yes. The core game is completely free, including 3 character classes (Warrior, Mage, Rogue), all maps, dungeons, and gameplay features. An optional premium subscription unlocks 3 additional classes, extra character slots, and cosmetics.

What classes are available?

Free classes: Warrior (melee tank), Mage (ranged glass cannon), Rogue (burst assassin). Premium classes: Cleric (healer), Ranger (ranged hybrid), Necromancer (summoner). All content can be completed with free classes.

How do I move and attack?

Desktop: WASD or arrow keys to move, left-click to attack or interact, right-click to harvest resources. Number keys 1–0 select hotbar slots. Press Q to open your character sheet, J for the quest log, Enter for chat.

Mobile: Use the on-screen directional pad to move. Tap the Attack button to fight and the skill buttons for abilities.

How does combat work?

Combat is manual — there is no auto-attack. Left-click or tap the Attack button to swing at the nearest enemy in range. Use abilities from your hotbar or skill bar for extra damage. All damage is calculated on the server for fairness. Critical hits deal 2x damage.

How do I harvest resources?

Find resource nodes on the map (rocks for mining, plants for herbalism). Walk close and right-click (desktop) or tap (mobile) to start harvesting. A progress bar shows your gathering status. Nodes require multiple swings to deplete and respawn after a few minutes.

You can also click a distant node — your character will walk over and start harvesting automatically.

How do I craft items?

Talk to a crafting NPC: Marcus (blacksmith) for weapons and armor, or Thea (alchemist) for potions. Choose the crafting option in their dialogue to open the recipe panel. Select a recipe, check you have the materials and required profession level, then click Craft.

How do dungeons work?

Find dungeon entrances on the world map. Choose a difficulty (Normal, Hard, or Nightmare) and enter. Each dungeon has multiple floors with enemies to clear, interactable puzzles (levers and doors), and a boss on the final floor. Party members enter the same instance together. Rewards scale with difficulty.

Where do I find quests?

Look for NPCs with a yellow ! above their heads — they have a quest for you. Talk to them to accept it. A green ? means you can turn in a completed quest there. Press J (desktop) to view your quest log.

How do I join or create a party?

Use the party interface to invite another player on the same map. They'll see an invitation to accept or decline. Parties share XP, quest progress, and loot (based on the party's loot mode). Up to 4 players per party.

How does player trading work?

Open the trade interface with another player. Each side offers items and/or gold. Both players must confirm before the trade completes. Trades are all-or-nothing — you can't lose items to a partial trade.

How does PvP work?

PvP is opt-in. Press V to toggle your PvP flag. Both players must be flagged to fight. Damage is reduced to 50% in PvP, and there's a 5-level gap limit to prevent griefing. You get 30 seconds of invulnerability after respawning.

How do I use chat?

Press Enter to open the chat panel. Type your message and press Enter to send. Channels include map chat (everyone on your current map), global chat (all players), whispers (private messages), and party chat (party members only).

What does premium include?

A premium subscription unlocks 3 additional classes (Cleric, Ranger, Necromancer), extra character slots, and exclusive cosmetics. The base game remains fully playable for free — premium classes offer different playstyles, not more power.

How do I manage my subscription?

Log in and visit your Account settings in the main menu. The Subscription tab shows your current plan, billing period, and options to upgrade, cancel, or update payment. If your subscription lapses, existing premium characters remain playable but you can't create new ones.

How do I reset my password?

On the login screen, click Forgot Password and enter your email. We'll send a reset link. Click the link, set your new password, and you're back in.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Contact us at support@echoforge.games with your account email and we'll process the deletion. This is permanent and removes all characters and progress.

The game won't load

Try these steps: (1) Hard refresh your browser (Ctrl+Shift+R). (2) Clear your browser cache. (3) Try a different browser (Chrome works best). (4) Disable browser extensions that might block WebGL or JavaScript. (5) Check your internet connection.

I'm experiencing lag or disconnects

The game auto-reconnects when your connection recovers. If lag persists: (1) Check your internet stability. (2) Close other bandwidth-heavy tabs. (3) Try a wired connection instead of WiFi. (4) Reduce the zoom level in Settings. If the issue continues, it may be server-side — check Known Issues.

My character is stuck

Open the Settings menu (in-game) and click I'm Stuck. This teleports you to the nearest town with your stats, inventory, and equipment intact. If the button doesn't work, try refreshing the page.

I lost my items

In Normal mode, you keep all items on death. In Hardcore mode, items drop at your corpse — you have 1 hour to return and recover them. If the hour passes, they're gone permanently. That's the intended risk of Hardcore.

How do I report a bug?

You can: (1) Submit a ticket here on the support portal (coming soon). (2) Post in the EchoForge Discord #feedback-and-bugs channel. (3) Use the /bug command in Discord for a guided report. (4) Email support@echoforge.games.
